Supreme Court of India observed that a minority government can be formed in Delhi
Supreme Court of India on 30 October 2014 observed that a minority government can be formed in Delhi with outside support of a political outfit.
The apex court also termed Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung's move to talk with all political parties on forming a government in Delhi, as positive.
It transferred the hearing a plea from the Aam Aadmi Party on dissolving the assembly and holding fresh polls in Delhi to 11 November 2014.
Backdrop :
L-G Najeeb Jung, called the BJP, Congress and AAP to discuss any possibility of forming a government in the national capital, in view of the President’s approval to explore the possibility of installing a popular government in Delhi.
L-G took the step of beginning consultations with political parties a day after the five-judge bench of SC slammed the Union Government and L-G for delay in taking a decision on government formation in Delhi.
The Delhi Assembly has been under suspended animation and is under President's Rule since the AAP government led by Arvind Kejriwal quit in February 2014.
